Vadstena picturesque environment is unique and well-preserved historic structures, quaint cobbled streets and overlooking Vättern. Two people who contributed to Vadstena famous skyline Gustav Wasa, who built Vadstena Castle, and the saint St. Birgitta who had built the magnificent abbey church. In Vadstena is crammed with all the museum where you can experience the cultural treasures on their own or through interesting tours. Many tours are dramatized and allows you to move back in time in an exciting way.
A place for creative and craft
The creation has been a recurring theme in Vadstena since the Middle Ages. Even today flourishing creativity here and it shows, among other things, in the form of a local glassworks and knyppelkonsten which is strongly associated with Vadstena. The Lace Museum, you can learn more about the lace trade, intriguing history and the association Swedish Spetsars shop you can buy everything from materials to finished lace.
Looking for modern industrial design stamped Vadstena we recommend a visit to the Young 10:s showroom, where young people have the opportunity to design and product development of exciting products in local materials for summer internships. The creation can also be experienced during the popular Konstrundan second weekend in September, where you can get around on foot.
